Soul Surfer Page 55-213

                                                        Soul Surfer

In the book "Soul Surfer" by Rick Bundschuh, Bethany's dad goes in for surgery and while he goes in surgery Bethany and her friend Alana plus her dad and brother goes surfing. While they get in the water and get further out is a higher risk of a shark attack. Suddenly a shark comes and bites Bethany's arm and she is left with one arm instead of two. Alana and her dad bring's Bethany to shore and calls the ambulance; Bethany is calm and starting to lose conscious. Bethany gets to the hospital, waiting is Bethany's mom and brothers. Bethany survived the attack is on her way to recovery. While Bethany recovers she needs to learn how to surf with only one arm. Bethany competes against other girls in the regional competition. At the end Bethany does not win the competition but she knows that she won in her heart.

The literary term I picked is figurative language. Figurative language is words that mean more than their individual meanings and express truth beyond the literal level. A type of figurative language is a simile on page 96 which is " When the paramedics wheeled me into the emergency room , my dad's doctor said I was as cool as a cucumber". Another figurative language is a hyperbole on page 103 is " As soon as I got there, I was rushed to the X-ray room and the whole time I was dying for a drink of water."
Those are some figurative language in my book "Soul Surfer".

This book reminds me of a article I read about how there was a shark attack in Orlando, Sentinel. This shark attack happened February 14, 2013. This reminded me because it was about a girl who got attacked by a shark and lost her leg and in the book "Soul Surfer" Bethany lost an arm to a shark attack. This is what reminded me of the book
